It was an extremely windy and cold day. But wind and cold do not make any difference to a beagle that has a rabbit in its sights.
"Aroouuuuu!" "Ight!" "Ight!" "Aroouuuuuuu!" the dogs yelped. A scared rabbit was on the move double time. After a hard straight forward run, the beagles briefly lost the rabbit. As usual they found the rabbit and ran it back around to where it started. Heading back from its second circle, he took a wrong turn and was taken.
In search of a cottontail, the hunters and dogs pushed through the briars and brambles so as to kick up a rabbit. "There it goes!" exclaimed an excited hunter. Soon, the dogs were on the hot track. It was a good chase, but the rabbit was wily and outwitted the dogs.
"Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit!" shouted one of the hunters. A shot was fired, and the rabbit sneaked up on another hunter. Three shots were unleashed, but the rabbit stole past. Not two minutes later, a befuddled rabbit tried his luck at running the same route back again. This time it only took one shot and the cottontail plopped over like an opossum does when he's playing dead.
Sooner than you can say, "Cooking Cottontail in the Crockpot", the beagles were singing again. It was a long chase, but to sum it up, another wily rabbit scampered by with dogs on its tail. A young hunter took it for the sup.
The fourth and final rabbit for the day was jumped. The cottontail went up the treeline and a few minutes later popped out and streaked across an open field untouched. Soon, the rabbit creeped back up the tree line, but this time, the beagles won.
Despite the weather, much fun was had and stories of a lifetime will be told.
